1. Overview

KoruTalk ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you use KoruTalk, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. We built KoruTalk with privacy as a core principle — no account required, no camera access, minimal data collection.

2. Information We Collect

We collect only what is necessary to operate the service:

  • Session data: A temporary, anonymous session ID is created when you start a chat. It is discarded when the session ends, except that if you report someone, the report record keeps your session ID so the report can be reviewed. Reports never contain message content.

  • Chat messages: Messages are relayed in real time and are not stored on our servers after the session ends.

  • Technical data: Standard server logs including IP address, browser type, and timestamps. These are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

  • Abuse-prevention identifiers: Your browser stores a random device ID (in local storage, not a cookie), which is replaced every 30 days. Together with a pseudonymized form of your IP address (a keyed hash, not the address itself), it is used only to stop you being matched again with someone you just talked to or reported. These identifiers are kept on our servers for at most 24 hours.

  • Usage analytics: Aggregate, anonymised data about how features are used (e.g. number of active sessions). No personally identifiable information is included.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to operate and improve KoruTalk, detect and prevent abuse, ensure platform safety, and comply with legal obligations. We do not sell or rent your personal data. KoruTalk is supported by advertising; see Section 4 for how our advertising partners use cookies.

4. Cookies and Advertising

We use a first-party cookie to remember your theme preference (light or dark mode).

We display ads served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to KoruTalk and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this and other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info. Where required by law, including in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, we ask for your consent before advertising cookies are used, and you can change your choice at any time. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

5. Data Retention

Chat messages are not stored after a session ends. Server logs are retained for up to 30 days. Anonymised analytics data may be retained indefinitely.

6. Children’s Privacy

KoruTalk is not intended for users under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe a minor has used the service, please contact us immediately.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. Because we collect minimal data and do not require accounts, most requests can be fulfilled by simply ending your session. For other requests, contact us at the address below.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Continued use of KoruTalk after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
