What happened to Omegle?
Omegle shut down on November 8, 2023, after 14 years online. Founder Leif K-Brooks cited two reasons: the unsustainable cost of fighting platform misuse at scale, and a lawsuit filed by a survivor of child sexual abuse alleging Omegle had facilitated harm. The combination made continuing impossible for an independent operation with limited resources.

Omegle's appeal was simple: genuine randomness, no social stakes, no account required.
